In short: I've been living in Edmonton since the fall of 2009; things have happened since then, such as life, life, stuff, and life, and now it is 2011!
There is a community of Christians that I'm part of called the Monk Punks (unofficially), and we host a church, officially, called Look to the Cross For Victory. Shawn (http://poetpunkpastor.blogspot.com) and Kate Birss planted both the church and community (of which I'm going to refer as the "churmunity") about three years ago in Old Strathcona, Edmonton. This area is full up with vibrant culture; some hipsters here, some punks there, metal heads, philosophers and philoposers; along with university kids and their teachers, artists and their materials, families and their lives; all existing within the most ancient area of Edmonton. The purpose of our churmunity in this particular area is simply described: to Love Jesus our Lord with everything that we are; and to love our neighbors just like we love each other.
I've been serving in this churmunity since september of 2010, and it looks like I'll be part of it for quite some time in the future. We are around 20 members and growing, who are committed to each other through the practice of Christian Community. There are other people that frequent our community whom we love as brothers and sisters too.
This blog will follow my life while interacting with LTTX (Look to the Cross) and the Monk Punk community. Obviously topics of discussion will be various, but considering the teaching nature of my role in the church, there will be a whole lot of Christian/Canonical Bible talk. I promise you that. The purpose of this blog is for me to become used to placing my thoughts down on "paper", while sharing with whoever is interested in the general, and sometimes intimate areas of belief, concern, and amusement, bouncing around in this ol' head o' mine.
Finally, the title of this blog "I Feel Like Timothy" is referencing Timothy of the Bible's new testament, who was an apprentice of sorts to Paul the Apostle, whom wrote most of the new testament. Paul was Timothy's mentor for an undefined, but probably large, amount of years. Even when Timothy was placed into an Apostolic roll, he was still receiving directions and encouragement from Paul, who was in jail quite often towards the end of his life.
So, I currently feel like Timothy because of the student roll I have taken under Shawn Birss in recent times; constantly learning and challenging my current views on everything regarding life. And I also pray to remain like Timothy did, as a student, even in times of responsibility.
Enjoy, be challenged, laugh if you feel like laughing. But there is one thing I want to make clear if I have not already: This blog is dedicated to the process of coming to know Jesus Christ, and bringing more of his life here on the Earth that he will inherit.
I'm going to post this now....
